I am a total stranger to you all , but I would like to defend the person in charge of the Shelter who would not offer Darlene Sanctuary . I dont know personally her , or the shelter , or the USA , as I'm a little-travelled veterinarian in England .
I think she thought :
"Oh heck , yet another puppy . Probably unvaccinated . We have three possible cases Parvovirus on Friday , two have died . ( We cant afford the latest , most expensive treatment , and the poor little sods die whatever . ) If I admit this pup , she'll proably be dead by Thursday .
And we have a 2 - weeks , then if not rehomed , euthanasia policy . Its tough , but at least we give them a painless death . Better than being hit by a car and lying in a ditch to be eaten by maggots . There's loads of dogs dumped on us at the moment , and very few people want dogs . They afford holidays , but not dogs . Better they dont adopt dogs anyway , if they cant afford to look after them . I cant admit to this gent about our Parvovirus problem , or the Kill policy , because he'll tell everyone , and our meagre dontaions will dry up .
Best for the pup if I refuse to take it in . He doesnt look the kind of man who'd dump it again . He'll probably take it home himself , or find afriend who'll take it . He has a kind face , and dog hair , not the puppy's , on his jacket .
I just cant tell him face to face , I'm ashamed . I love dogs , and I spend my life trying to help them , and I can only offer disease and death . I'll just say it quickly as I walk past him , then he wont see the tears in my eyes . "

Max,

You are welcome. It has to be personal, so people know I am simply human-not perfect. Too many blogs tell how perfect they are, sounds like people in the beltway.

My other popular entry was "Society of Incompetence" a couple of months ago, also a saga of me dealing with constant incompetence in our society.

Yo, Max! How've you've been? Well, it's THEIR blogs (their RULES) we're talkin' 'bout, not much we can do 'bout that. Yeah, we should be grateful that the Major's more of a liberal.

Wishin' ya & the rest of the dudes who've posted a great week ahead.

Good on you, Don. Shame on the bureaucrat at the rescue shelter, but fortunately it worked out. Dogs are great companions, and how we treat dogs is indicative of how we treat people.
